La trayectoria vital y profesional de Celso Lagar puede dividirse en cuatro etapas bien delimitadas por los acontecimientos históricos que le tocó vivir. Las dos grandes guerras influirían poderosamente en la vida de Lagar pero no así en sus planteamientos artísticos, marcados desde su consolidación por una temática concreta (paisajes, bodegones y, sobre todo, sus celebradas escenas circenses) y una serie de influencias constantes (Goya, Cezanne).
Pasado el período de influencias vanguardistas (cubismo, fouvismo), Lagar encontraría un camino propio marcado fundamentalmente por la inspiración goyesca y picassiana. Paulatinamente su paleta se hace más fría pero los temas siguen siendo los mismos y el reconocimiento de crítica y público iría en aumento.

Life and work of Celso Lagar can be divided into four stages separated distinctly by the historical events. The two World Wide Wars had a powerful influence on Lagar’s life but not on his artistic approaches, marked since their consolidation by a concrete thematic (landscapes, taverns, and, especially, his eulogized circus scenes); and a series of constant influences (Goya, Cezanne).
Having already passed the period of avant-garde influences (cubism, fauvism), Celso Lagar would find his own way, mainly marked by the inspiration provided by Goya and Picasso. Gradually, his palette becomes colder but the themes stay the same, and the recognition of critic and public would be on the increase.
